Florida’s top-ranked higher education system and Department of Education support industry advancements and initiatives for an ever-growing, talented workforce. Home to three of the ten largest universities in the country, the Sunshine State’s colleges and universities are among the nation’s top performers in R&D and commercialization of technologies. With more than 114,000 bachelor’s degrees awarded yearly, Florida ranks fourth in the nation in graduates and nearly 30% of state university undergraduate degrees awarded are in the STEM fields.

The Florida College System

Florida is home to 28 different colleges and universities, including a variety of public colleges, private institutions, community colleges and medical universities. Twelve public universities make up Florida’s State University System, providing students with various education programs and services for students including financial aid and planning resources. Renowned schools like University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida State University in Tallahassee, and the University of South Florida in Tampa all rank among the top 50 public universities in the country. In addition, Florida is home to some of the top American private universities like the University of Miami and liberal arts colleges, like New College of Florida.
