In 2018, FPL acquired Crawford Diamond, a certified megasite and 1,800-acre property with a proposed 74.5 MW solar facility planned to be constructed in the near future. The site is located just outside of Jacksonville and is prime for manufacturers looking for new space. The site is already permitted for hundreds of acres of manufacturing, with access to rail, road, sea and air infrastructure.

In FPL’s service area, Florida’s advanced materials industry grew 8% from 2013 to 2017, compared to only 1% nationally, and the industry is projected to grow 2% more by 2021.
ADVANCED SMART GRID
FPL uses advanced sensors to quickly identify outages and has installed more than 12,000 smart devices on the electric grid to help improve service reliability. By 2020, smart grid technologies could reduce the cost of power interruptions by more than 75%, saving businesses over $150 billion a year.

FPL commercial/industrial electric rates are 41% below the national average ― as low as $0.05/kWh. FPL also offers unique, negotiable incentive rates for qualifying projects of at least 2 MW, as well as other programs such as specialized workforce development assistance and our Economic Development Rider (EDR), designed to help attract new investment to the Sunshine State.
